I would like to wish all families celebrating a Happy Divali! Enjoy the half term! Student of week: Joshua Tarry has been such a lovely, helpful, hard-working boy this week and every week! Well done, Josh! Reminders: Library books to be returned on Monday. Boys need to wear ties everyday after half term. Proper black school shoes need to be worn. Please organise this over half term. There is topic homework up on the weebly for over half term. Please return Kit Kit trip permission letters and 10dhs if you haven't already. This week's learning: This week we have written our non-chronological reports all about airports which look great! In topic this week the children analysed maps of airports and then made their own maps using a key and symbols. In 3D maths, the children have learnt how to subtract using the number line method, counting up from the smallest number to the biggest. In science the children were so excited to make electromagnets and they turned out very well! Next week's learning: After half-term we will be reading and writing play scripts in English. In maths we will be learning more about addition, word problems and capacity. Finally, our new topic is Chocolate!!! Student of the week: Aaron Storrie - for working so hard in English this week as well as winning the Dojo points! Remember: Bring both swimming AND PE kit for both Sunday and Tuesday's lessons. Home learning due on Monday. Library books due in on Monday. This week we have: Learnt how to create a story journey of a story called The Way Back Home. Written our amazing adventure stories, telling the story of the boy who flew his rocket into space and ran into a few problems! Learnt more about mass and reading scales (please practise weighing at home too if you have a set of kitchen scales). Researched the job responsibilities of flight attendants on the internet. Written scripts for Cabin Crew training videos, ready to film next week. Enjoyed listening to Fantastic Mr Fox during snack time. Next week we are: Learning all about non-chronological reports in English. Learning about capacity and volume, handling data and adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers in Maths. This week's learning: This week the children began learning about non-chronological reports in English. In Guided Reading we also discussed features and layout of non-chronological reports. In maths we have been handling data; using tally charts and representing and interpreting data from bar charts. In maths we also used the number line method to add 2 & 3 digit numbers. In Topic we recorded our flight attendant training videos and designed our own passports. In Science we learnt about electromagnets, what they do and how to make one. Next week's learning: The children will be writing and creating their own non-chronological report all about airports in English. In 3D maths they will be using inverse operations. In topic they will be practising map skills. Excitingly, in Science, they will be make and experimenting with their very own electromagnets! They had a fantastic time and came back to class very happy!
At the end of week 5, the children are feeling very accomplished! I am very proud of them for how well-behaved, mature and independent they have become - and so quickly! Please continue to foster your child's independence at home to support this. Thank you. This week in 3D we have: Learnt how to write imaginative setting descriptions using adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, connectives, similes and openers. Practised writing clear and accurate sentences with capital letters and full stops. Read a variety of books including 'Amazing Paint', 'What Could I Be', 'Newsflash' and 'The Minpins' and discussed them in our guided reading sessions. Learnt about measuring in Maths, including length and mass. Please explore these skills at home with your parents/child as it will really help you in lessons! Enjoyed listening to Roald Dahl's 'The Twits' during snack time, although there were some disgusting moments not suited to snack time! :) Learnt about different jobs in an airport and begun thinking about the role and responsibilities of Cabin Crew. Learnt about magnetic fields and drawn them in Science. Played football in PE lessons. Practised speaking and writing greetings in French. Practised speaking and writing about visiting different landmarks in Dubai in Arabic lessons. Next week we will be: Writing an adventure story. More mass and length work in maths, including word problems involving measure. Listening to Fantastic Mr. Fox during snack time. Preparing and filming our Cabin Crew training videos. Key things to remember: Back to school on Tuesday. Remember there is no home learning as such - but do complete your chores for Sewa Day and bring in your photograph and calling card on Tuesday. Bring in parents evening forms. Please ask your child to take this out of their plastic folder themselves. Have a lovely long weekend with your families.
